Sunshine Coast Rugby Union general manager Connor Ellis spoke to the media at the grand final breakfast this morning.
First year in the big chair, mate, how’s it been?
Yeah, it’s been excellent, mate. Obviously had a bit of a knowledge of the competition beforehand coming from QRU, but yeah, it’s been great to see the standard of footy up here is very high. Would put it amongst probably the best in country, so it’s been good to get involved at that level a little bit more and get to know the clubs and people, so yeah, it’s been great first year. Perfect. Super competitive as well.
Super competitive as well. A, reggies, women, and even Friday night?
Yeah, it’s great, mate. It’s obviously good to see Swans hosting a grand final, a bit of a break from the Uni Noosa of recent years. Obviously, you know, the Reggies have been very competitive as well coming through. Brothers have had a couple of strong wins over the year. Uni have been the standard. Women’s has been much the same. Nambour and Noosa have been kind of the two dominant teams, so probably deserved grand final competitors. So it’s been really good to see, mate, across the board, and hopefully we just continue to grow from here going into next year.
Should be a special day at Maroochydpre. I think Mitch was saying before … that 98 was the last time was the last time they hosted a Grand Final. Must be pretty special for Cotton Tree and the club as a whole?
Yeah, it’s fantastic to see him host, mate. a major part of the Sunshine Coast. Maroochydore has been a massive club down here, you know, had varying levels of success, so great to see them back hosting. Hopefully it’s a good boost to the club, both, you know, from just people through the door and a bit of revenue for the club for the year. Well deserved for what’s been a pretty outstanding season, you know, well deserved for those players and the coaching group. They’ve been, you know, building for a few years now, so yeah, it’s a great reward for Maroochydore.
