Nambour have gone in to Sunshine Coast Rugby’s Sunshine Coast Cup preliminary final with a 30 points to 12 win over Gympie.
“Yeah, it was a pretty tough one,” said Toad captain Austin McNaughton.
“Obviously, some big boys out there always knew it was going to be a physical one.
“They hit hard, those blokes, and managed to stay on top of it tonight.
“I think it was two cards each way, which sort of created a bit more space on the field, suited us a bit more than them.
“So, yeah, worked in our favour in the long run.”
Gympie got out to an early lead but Nsmbour managed to pull them back as the game progressed.
“[G]oing into halftime, we kicked one from the sideline, took up 13-12, and then we knew both of their tries that they were kind of just unlucky for us, really. Just drop the ball and they quick pick up and run through.
“But yeah, we knew if we kept our AB defenders there and worked as a unit, we’d keep them out in second half, and that’s what we did. So that’s where the margin came from.”
Maroochydore defeated Noosa in the qualifying semi meaning Nambour now travel to Sunshine Beach to play Noosa on Friday night.
