Maroochydore defeated Nambour 14 points to 10 at Cotton Tree on Saturday.
We caught up with flanker Lucinda Kelly after the game.
q: How was that for a first round hit out?
a: I think it’s always going to be nervy going into the first round, considering we have quite a new team again this year. I think there was a lot of nerves out there today but I think that we all pulled together and played a really really solid game. [It’s] only up from here I think.
q: It’s always good to get that first one out of the way to get all the nerves and whatever else out?
a: Absolutely yeah. I think that you can only build off your first game so we won’t rest on that one we’ll definitely keep building our structure and our um and yeah big season ahead.
q: Nambour seem to come back at you early in that second half. What di you do to keep them out?
a: I think that Nambour always play a really good attacking side. They’ve got some really good depth and some really fast players, but I think we just played to our strengths, and did some really good defensive work, and that played in our favour really well.
q: Who are we playing next week?
a: I don’t know who we’re playing next week. Take every week as it comes.
q: Take the challenge as it comes?
a: Absolutely yeah.
q: What do you think of playing on Anzac Day next week?
a: I think it’s gonna be pretty cool. There’s a bit of hype around it. It’ll be really nice to, I guess, celebrate our Anzacs and pay tribute to them as well and get to play the good game of footy
q: Who stood out for you guys today?
a: From our team
q: Yeah
a: I think Kelsey from our team, she was really, really nervous going into today and she really showed some really hard running and some good tackling. I think that we’ve got a big season ahead so I can only, I can’t wait until the end of the season to see how she goes.
