Noosa Dolphins captain Tess Evans caught up with the media at the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union grand final breakfast this morning.
Season starts, everyone wants to play grand final, everyone wants to play finals. How’s it been?
I think for us, this year’s been a massive build-up off the back of last year. We really struggled last year to make it through and then to win the final was a massive comeback year for us. And then naturally from that win, we’ve just had such injection of talent and young girls come through. So I think we’ve had record registrations for the club in the women’s space. This year’s been cool let’s build off what we did last year um and yeah it’s been a season full of like success like for individuals and then as a team so we’re looking forward to this weekend
That must make you super proud, like, obviously yourself [and] Lawrence kind of been there from the start. You bounced around a little bit yeah both of you this year?
I think to see Noosa not have a team two years ago and then to do what we did last year and then this year has just been like such a reward for all that hard work and trying to pull a team together so many weeks last year. So to have like 35 registered players for Noosa has just been like such a win that could make us prouder really.
Then the finals obviously got the win in the major final came down really close but what do you expect?
I think like the whole you know theme for us has just been we just focus on our game um and be better than the week we were before so We just want to be better than the team that we were in the semi-final. We’ve got, I’ve been out for, you know, eight weeks and injury. I’m coming back this weekend. So that’ll be another injection of, you know, energy and fun. So I’m looking forward to it. The team’s looking forward to it. And like, as I said, we’ve got a lot of players to pick from too. There’s going to be people missing out, but we’re looking at it holistically as everyone that’s registered that’s been around has got us to where we are this weekend. And it’s like, yeah, all high energy going into the final.
