Caloundra on to next round of Cup competition

A three goal flurry has seen Caloundra move through to the next round of the Kappa Queensland Cup soccer competition

The Eagles advanced with a four goals to one home win over Pacific Pines at their Meridan Plains ground.

“[We had a] good second half,” said Caloundra captain Kaine Frew.

“Obviously first competitive match [of the year] tonight. It was good for the boys to get the cobwebs out.

“We’ve played a few easier sort of preseason games and obviously they’ve come up from the Gold Coast.

“[They] had a good win last [round].”

Chris Lewis opened the scoring for Pacific Pines in the sixth minute.

Darryl Barton equaled the score at thirty minutes.

One all would remain the score at the break.

Barton scored his second for Caloundra eight minutes into the second half before Riley Campbell added a third seven minutes later.

Mackener Bradfield knocked home Caloundra’s fourth goal three minutes there after.

The score stayed at four goals to one despite the efforts of the Pacific Pines side.

“We started a bit slow and obviously we got a few new players. So we’re all just still gelling.

“But yeah, no, it was a really good second half. We’re happy with that. And we’ll take that into training next week and be ready for round one.

Caloundra’s next game is against Brisbane Knights at home on Saturday coming.

“[They’re] a big club, but we really don’t know [what to expect], to be honest,” said Frew.

“We’re just going to worry about ourselves. Obviously, we think we can be competitive this year there’s no doubt about that.

“As long as we can play 90 minutes. Not like tonight where for first half an hour was it wasn’t great. We need to play like we did in the second half for the whole game.”
