Nambour lost to Maroochydore 14 points to 10 in their opening round Sunshine Coast Rugby Union women’s match at Cotton Tree on Saturday.
We caught up with Toads coach Hollie Smith after the game.
q: How was that for a round 1 hit out?
a: Hey look, round one, we came we were ready. Can’t be upset with that. A great effort on both sides. I think we really pulled it together in the second half. And look, we’ve got a couple more rounds to go. So what a great way to start.
q: I see someone has brought up their 50 games Talk us through that.
a: Couldn’t be prouder. Bridget Carter, 50 senior matches. So she’s obviously been a toad since she was a junior. And 50 games is no small feat. So congratulations, Biddy.
q: Good to see these juniors coming through and playing their 50?
a: Yes.
q: What are you taking this one for next week?
a: Look, I think it just comes down to a bit of communication within the team and making sure we’re coming out strong and not just turning it on in
the second half. So, it’s always good to have something to work on and know that we only go up from here.
q: Do you know who you’re playing next week?
a: You tricked me on that one. I want to say Caloundra, but it could be wrong.
q: you’ll figure it out during the week?
a: Yeah, you know, it’s just a jersey on the other side at the end of the day.
q: What are your thoughts about playing on Anzac Day?
a: Look. It’s always an exciting time to be out on Anzac Day. Always good to have a round at that time. And, you know, we respect and take that moment of silence for those who fought for Australia and play with the pride.
q: Did I see Bridgette score at least one of the two tries?
a: She didn’t score one. No, she knocked it on. Nearly, but don’t tell her.
q: Who else stood out for you guys?
a: Look, Kimber, so Kimberly Bloomfield, we’ve had her for the last few years. She’s a junior coming through and she’s always there to put in some hard work. Great chat and see her make her runs down the field. She always blends the team together.
q: So a good lot of leadership?
a: Yes, good luck. Kimber, we got Gracie Wright coming in as captain this year. And of course, Beck Murtaugh always coming in and being a strong player as well.
q: Anything else?
a: Excited, Up the Toads.
